The Poicephalus Family
The Poicephalus family is a group of small African Parrots that make wonderful pets. They are intelligent, playful and affectionate. They are not as noisy as Macaws or Amazons and in comparison with other species of parrots they are not very messy.
There are nine species in the family and all have short, broad tails. They cover a broad spectrum of colors, from brown and green(Brown-headed) to bright blue(Ruppell's), yellow(Sengegal) and orange(Jardine's). These birds are an excellent choice for people who are intimidated by the larger parrots, but still want a companion bird that is very intelligent. The Meyer's species make excellent first birds because they are exceptionally forgiving and patient.

The Poicephalus species that Popeye's is currently raising are the Meyer's and Brown-headed Parrots.
